Ne-Yo Pens Songs For Britney Spears, Whitney Houston; Preps New Album

Ne-Yo is on top of his game right now. After penning recent hits like "Irreplaceable" for Beyonce, he is working with some other ladies to help them in the song writing process. Those women being Britney Spears and Whitney Houston.

How is he able to pen these songs for the ladies you ask? According to the singer, he owes it all to his mother. "Any slight insight I might have into the mind of a woman, I owe it all to my mom," he explained to MTV recently. "Growing up with her, dad checked out kinda early, so it was me, my mom, my sister, my grandmother and like three or four of my aunties all in the same house till I was about 16. Any experience they went through, I was right there with them. Be it breakups, meeting a new dude, I was right here listening to phone conversations.

"I will not say that I know anything about women, nobody really does, but I may have a little more insight than the average guy," he continued.

Ne-Yo says that when he writes songs for artists, he’d much rather sit down with them to see where their heads are at and where they wanna do with the song. But, that doesn’t always happen, he says, and instead, he’s left doing the long distance thing for some of his collaborators.

"Some artists come to me and say, ‘I love what you do, just do what you do. Try to write me a hit.’ I try my best. If something comes out of it, it comes out. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. It doesn’t always happen. I’m about to start doing some stuff with Whitney Houston. I want to sit down and pick her brain and see where she wants to go," said the singer.

Although he hasn’t sat down with Britney, he’s submitted several tracks for her new album, according to MTV. Ne-Yo communicates with the pop star’s team to get a feel for what she’s looking for, and it’s definitely not a song about her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

"One thing they told me was, ‘No more songs about Kevin. She’s got a 12-CD disc changer full of songs about Kevin. She don’t need no more of those,’ " Ne-Yo said.

In addition to penning songs for others, Ne-Yo is also working on his new album, which is due April 24. He recently released the first single, "Because of You."
